Inverted Blackness is a photoblog publishing photographs and personal stories of Africans living in America. A photography project by the artist Boluwatife Oyediran, it aims to document the African immigrant and non-immigrant experience in the United States of America.

Who is writing?


Boluwatife Oyediran is a visual artist from Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́, Nigeria. He studied Literature-in-English at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ilé-Ifẹ̀. A 2021 Junior Fellow at the Noldor Artist Residency and a 2022 artist-in-residence at Gallery1957, he received his MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2024, where he was awarded the Presidential Fellowship. Currently living and working in Providence, USA, he is interested in African immigrant stories in the American diaspora. Outside of his painting practice, Inverted Blackness: The Photoblog is his way of documenting these stories. You can find him on Instagram @boluoyediran.
